Domenico MORFEO

(Fiorentina)

Emiliano Mondonico knows him very well, since it was just the Atalanta's coach to foster, to complete and to launch Domenico to the great football. Mondonico doesn't have any doubt in considering Morfeo a traditional "number 10", a true talent willing to place himself at the team disposal. A great midfielder who can make the team move around himself. A strong and resolute leader who possesses marked offensive skills. However Mondonico took some time to make the young Morfeo a complete football player, strong physically and mentally, rich in fantasy and ingeniousness.

After a few initial misunderstandings, Fiorentina's coach Alberto Malesani, now, is continuing Mondonico's work. In fall "the little jewel", was relegated on the bench. Since he couldn't suffer in silence, at some point he asked the Club to be traded. He was wanted by the Lecce's coach Prandelli who coached him in the juvenile team of Atalanta.

Morfeo didn't engage a true controversy with the Club but called the management to account about his own future. He is a 22 years old player who can't put up with staying on the bench, since he needs to feel confidence around himself. Shortafter, however, Malesani decided Morfeo's moment was arrived and he repaid the coach by a series of great performances, mixing innate talent, sense of enlightening pass and ability to score by himself. Qualities of a true "number 10", as Mondonico claimed, coupled with special guts, necessary to emerge in today football.

Morfeo, who was born in Pescina, has already gone a long way. He even won an European title with the Under 21 national team of Cesare Maldini, scoring the crucial penalty in the final game of Barcelona. A beautiful memory for a 22 years old talent who used to keep Roberto Baggio's picture in his wallet until two years ago.
