Marcio AMOROSO
(Udinese)
An almost 24 years old great, unlucky, talent. He became a Brazilian idol when, still not being 20, he scored a masterpiece goal piercing the son of Pelè and leading Guaranì to win 4-0 over Santos. At that time Marcio Amoroso dos Santos had already traveled all over the world. Born in Brasilia he began to play for the Club de Senado, before moving to Guaranì where, being just 15, he started scoring bunches of goals. At 16 he won a juvenile Championship in Japan, with Yomiuri Verdy.
In 1994 he went back to Brazil, where he definitively exploded, once again playing for Guaranì. That season Amoroso revealed himself to be the top-scorer of the Brazilian Championship scoring 19 goals and being awarded as the best Brazilian player of the year even preceding Ronaldo. He was promptly called by the National Team but shortafter misfortune made its first appearance in his life. In April 1995 his left kneeís ligaments were broken and a 7 months stop began.
In 1996-97 he arrived in Italy to play and revive with Udinese. His start was a slow one but later he proved to be a real offensive weapon, recovering his potentials and scoring 10 goals in 28 games. However misfortune was still in ambush. Earlier he dislocated his collarbone and could not play for 2 weeks, later, exactly the day of his comeback, Atalanta ís defender Rustico hit him by the elbow causing Amoroso a thoracic contusion and a pulmonary trauma which forced him to sit out for another month.
Now Amoroso is ready to comeback again, along with his teammate superstar Bierhoff, to upset the opposite defenses by his quickness and talent. In a few months then a new World Cup will start and Macio wants to couple with Ronaldo to lead Brazil toward another success.
